these fantastic AudioEngine 2's. The dealer didn't need to hype this system, he simply played a music CD and that was it !! SOLD !
Pros: Easy set up.
Quality construction.
Excellent sound.
Good Warranty
Cons: A bit pricey.
No protective face cover.

amazing sound for the price Aug 18, 2010 I bought these for my office, where I play music through my ipod touch, or Pandora internet radio through my computer. Seriously, these little guys sound amazing, you just get lost in your music, the way it should be. When I shut my door, my office becomes a little private oasis where I can relax to some beautiful music.
When you first open the box, the excellent packaging promises excellent sound- and build quality, and the A2s do not disappoint. They are solid, in well-made finely tuned enclosures with high-quality connectors and power/volume knob, not flimsy like most product in this price range. You know these will last for years.
The A2s are small and inconspicuous. Paired with an ipod, they would make a really great dorm room stereo, and are great for an office or other one-room application. Previously, I've used ipod speaker docks in my office or bedroom, which are okay but even the best ones do not have good stereo separation. The A2s are detached speakers, so you can place them far apart enough to achieve excellent stereo imaging throughout your whole room.
If you're not crazy about the sound, at first, don't worry, there's a break-in period - as with all decent speakers - and they WILL sound better later. Let music play through them unattended for a day or so, and you should be good to go.
I strongly recommend adding the Audioengine custom speaker stands to your order:
Audioengine ADS1 (Pr) Desktop Speaker Stand for A2 Speakers
They really make a difference. I'm very glad I got them.
One last thing. You'll see some negative reviews here. I do not mean disrespect toward these reviewers, I'm sure most of them are discerning listeners who know as much or more about speakers as me. But I think some of these negative reviews are from people who have unrealistic expectations of these speakers (which would be understandable given all the rave reviews). If you buy these, keep in mind the price and the intended application (office, bedroom, dorm room, etc); your expectations will be realistic and you'll be very happy.
Great speakers! Aug 18, 2010 These speakers are small but look good in our space. They have fantastic sound for the price.
Not for the Hearing or Listening Impaired Aug 09, 2010 OK. Here's the deal. If the only use you have for speakers is to rattle the walls with explosions or are in the process of ruining your hearing with metal or its current equivalent, or you believe "music" consists exclusively of bass vibration and all else is superfluous, these speakers are a waste of money. You can find louder, cheaper alternatives. And if you're bound and determined to overspend on speakers that can't reproduce sounds that aren't there in the source material, these won't satisfy you either. You can spend three or four times more on speakers that will improve on the sound of the A2's by less than one percent.
But if you aren't in any of those groups, it's difficult to imagine a better pair of speakers at a better price. I recently purchased a nice laptop for my wife and being the great guy I am, I gave her my 2.1 system that had been in my home office for several years. This relegated me to the marginal 2.1 set I had foisted off on her a couple of years ago. Having replaced the carpet in my office with hardwood floors, I found the subwoofer to be either intrusive or superfluous. And I found I was constantly crawling under my desk to adjust it.
So I went looking for speakers that promised more clarity, adequate but not intrusive bass, and in a size that left me room on my desk to work. Figured that I'd have to go with a 2.1(subwoofer)system but saw the great reviews of the Audioengine 2's and decided to give them a try.
What a revelation. As others have noted, I'm hearing notes I never knew existed, even listening to streaming audio over the internet. The bass is there, complementing but not overwhelming the rest of the music. The highs are crystal clear, never harsh (at least in what I've listened to so far. The mid-range where the melody usually lives is up front where it belongs.
If your listening habits range from classical symphonies through classic jazz and rock, you can't go wrong with these. And while I haven't tried them in a small home theater configuration (yet), I expect they'll perform at a high level there, as well.
P.S. Just received the speaker stands designed for the A2's. Frankly I didn't think it was possible to improve the sound of these little wonder speakers. I was wrong. The stands raise the speakers off my desk and angle them perfectly toward my ears. The rubberized material dampen the vibration on the desk and the angle makes it possible to lower the volume about 20%. Great little accessory.
Outstanding speakers Aug 08, 2010 I first heard these speakers at the Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in 2007 and was VERY impressed with the quality and quantity of sound. It's difficult to imagine a better speaker for its intended design. I bought these speakers with the Audioengine W1 kit and have been very satisfied. I've even used these speakers in a large 16' X 22' room with excellent results. Most highly recommended!
